Member Cards

Member Cards

A directory card that shows who somebody has become.

Enhanced BuddyBoss member cards carrying gamification metrics, certificates, tags, and any profile field, so a directory stops being a phone book and starts being a reason to reach out.

S.A.I.L. the four intrinsic motivators

Status

Standing that can be seen

>

Access

Doors that open

Influence

A voice that carries

>

Leverage

Standing turned into outcomes

A name and an avatar tell you nothing

The default community card gives you a photo, a display name, and possibly a join date. Nothing there answers the only question a member is actually asking, which is whether this person is worth talking to. Put a level, three earned badges, a certification, and a cohort tag on the same card and the answer becomes obvious in a second. That is the difference between a directory people scroll past and one they use.

BuddyBoss features are live today. BOSS enhancements are custom.

BuddyBoss community features are fully available now. Gamplify BOSS enhancements are currently delivered through custom architecture and trusted partner integrations, with a self-managed plugin coming as part of the Gamplify Social Suite.

What a card can carry

Everything available to you.

Any of these, in any arrangement, driven by CRM data rather than manual editing.

Worked example

The same member, two cards

One is the WordPress default. The other is the reason somebody sends a message.

Directory listing

Before and after

Status

Default card: photo, name, joined March 2025

Nothing here suggests she is worth an hour of anyone time.

Status

Enhanced: Level 8 Mentor, three badges shown

Including one only fourteen members on the platform hold.

Status

Certification and cohort tag displayed

Advanced Practitioner, Cohort 9, which tells a newer member she has been where they are.

Access

Availability: open to mentoring, replies within a day

Two facts that decide whether the message actually gets sent.

Influence

A card somebody acts on

And the earned status finally does work outside her own profile page.

Recipes

Three you could build this afternoon.

Read them as when, only if, then. That is the whole grammar of the system.

Show the rare ones, not the common ones

When

A member card renders

Only if

They hold multiple achievements

Then

Display the scarcest badges rather than the newest, since a badge everyone has communicates nothing

Put availability on the card

When

A member enables mentoring or coaching

Only if

They have capacity

Then

Show it, because most connections fail at the point of not knowing whether someone welcomes contact

Flag the new arrivals

When

A card renders in a directory or feed

Only if

Member joined in the last 14 days

Then

Mark them clearly so the community knows to welcome them, which is the cheapest onboarding you will ever run

Before you build

Three things worth knowing.

Note

Three to five items on a card. Beyond that it reads as clutter and people stop scanning.

Note

Cards are the single highest-leverage place to display status, because they appear everywhere a member is listed.

Note

Do not display membership tier unless you want it to be social information. Some communities benefit, most do not.
