Vibe Coding
The small feature that never justifies a sprint.
Build features, flows, and integrations with AI-assisted coding, aimed squarely at the useful work that sits in a backlog forever because it is too small to schedule.

The backlog is full of things worth two hours
Every platform has a list of small improvements that would each take a competent developer an afternoon and will never be built, because scheduling an afternoon of developer time costs more in coordination than the afternoon itself. A custom report, a shortcode variant, a small integration, a field on a form. AI-assisted coding is genuinely good at exactly this shape of work, and it is genuinely dangerous applied to anything larger without the review discipline to match.
Custom implementation today, self-managed tooling coming.
What it suits, and what it does not
How it is designed to work.
The honest version, because getting this wrong is expensive.
Small and contained
Good fit
- Custom shortcodes and display variants
- Small reports and data exports
- Simple integrations with a documented API
- Form field logic and validation
- Admin conveniences and internal tooling
Do not
Poor fit
- Anything touching payments or billing
- Authentication and access control
- Anything handling personal or sensitive data
- Performance-critical paths on a large platform
- Core architecture you will build on for years
Non-negotiable
Review
- A human reads every line before it ships
- Testing on real data volumes, not three sample rows
- Security review on anything touching input or access
- Staging first, never straight to production
Being honest
The hardening problem
- Generated code frequently works and is fragile
- Edge cases and error handling are usually thin
- It accumulates faster than it gets reviewed
- Unreviewed generated code becomes technical debt that nobody understands
Afterwards
Ownership
- Documented, so somebody can maintain it
- Owned by a person, not by the tool that made it
- In version control like everything else
- Rewritten properly if it turns out to matter
Worked example
A report that had been requested for a year
Two hours, reviewed, shipped. It had been in the backlog since last March.
Small feature
One afternoon
Build
Coaches wanted attendance split by cohort and tenure
Genuinely useful, never worth a sprint.
Build
Drafted as a report shortcode in about forty minutes
Reading from existing RPM data rather than new tables.
Know
Reviewed line by line by a developer
Which found two problems, both of them real.
Guide
Tested on the full member table, not a sample
Where it was slow, and had to be indexed properly.
Build
Shipped, documented, and owned by a named person
So in a year somebody knows what it is and why.
Recipes
Three you could build this afternoon.
Keep the blast radius small
When
Only if
Then
Never skip the review because it works
When
Only if
Then
Rewrite anything that turns out to matter
When
Only if
Then
Before you build
Three things worth knowing.
Note
Generated code that works is not the same as generated code that is safe. The gap is edge cases, error handling, and security.
Note
The real risk is accumulation. Ten unreviewed quick builds become a platform nobody fully understands, and that bill always arrives.
Note
Never point this at payments, authentication, or personal data. Those are the three places where a subtle bug is not a bug, it is an incident.
